Vaalco Energy Posts Strong Operational Updates: Gabon Production & Côte d'Ivoire Operatorship Confirmed
Houston-based independent energy firm Vaalco Energy has kicked off 2026 with impactful operational milestones across West Africa, including new production in Gabon, confirmed operatorship of the Kossipo field in Côte d'Ivoire, and FPSO plans for deepwater development.
In Gabon, the company's Etame 15H-ST development well has been brought online, delivering a stabilized flow rate of ~2,000 gross bopd with a 38% water cut. The well features a 250-meter lateral in high-quality Gamba sands, with active management to optimize reservoir performance. Vaalco has also spudded a step-out exploration well in West Etame, boasting a 57% geologic success chance and targeting mid-March for target depth, with potential 2026 reserve and production gains if successful.
In Côte d'Ivoire, Vaalco was confirmed as operator of the Kossipo field (CI-40 Block) with a 60% working interest, partnering with PetroCI (40%). The field holds 293 MMboe in-place resources and 102 MMboe 2C recoverable resources, with a field development plan set for H2 2026. The Baobab Ivorien FPSO is slated to return to Côte d'Ivoire by late March, with production resuming in Q2.
Additionally, Vaalco plans to use an FPSO for Kossipo's deepwater development and has earmarked a second FPSO for its Venus project in Equatorial Guinea. "We have begun 2026 with some very meaningful events," said Vaalco CEO George Maxwell, highlighting the company's growth trajectory in the region.
