On May 20, SPIC Guangdong officially launched the construction of the “Tuqiang” 20MW floating offshore wind demonstration unit in Zhuhai. The project marks the world’s first 20MW-class deepwater floating foundation based on a hybrid steel-concrete structure entering the build phase.
As a core project under China’s national key R&D program on ultra-large floating wind systems, “Tuqiang” is jointly developed by SPIC, 浙江大学, 金风科技, CCCC Fourth Harbor Engineering, and other leading industry players. The project reflects a coordinated “industry–academia–research institutes–end users” model aimed at solving key challenges for deepwater deployment under typhoon-prone and complex seabed conditions.
