Seatrium Secures 8th FSRU Conversion Contract with Karpowership, Reinforcing Leadership in Floating Energy Solutions

On March 9, Singapore-based maritime engineering giant Seatrium Limited announced it has secured a contract from Turkey's Karpowership to convert an LNG carrier into a FSRU. This marks the eighth FSRU conversion project between the two parties, solidifying their long-standing strategic partnership.

The contract is a concrete implementation of the cooperation framework signed in August 2025, which included converting three LNG carriers into FSRUs and advancing next-generation Powership projects. The conversion of the LNGT Karadeniz is scheduled to commence in Q3 2026. Upon completion, the vessel will boast a regasification capacity of 600 million standard cubic feet per day, equivalent to processing 4-5 million tons of LNG annually.

Key conversion works include installing regasification modules, deploying offshore mooring systems, and upgrading LNG loading/unloading systems, power systems, and automation control systems. The revamped FSRU will enable offshore LNG reception, regasification, and fuel delivery to onshore facilities or Karpowership's floating power plants.

Aligned with Karpowership's Powership model, which combines floating power stations with FSRUs to deliver rapid-deployment electricity, this project addresses the energy needs of power-scarce regions. As the global leader in FSRU conversions, Seatrium has completed over 90% of the world's FSU/FSRU retrofits, with 23 delivered projects to date, including six for Karpowership.

Singapore's decades-long expertise in offshore engineering retrofits, combined with Seatrium's integrated strengths from the merger of Keppel and Sembcorp Marine, cements its unrivaled position in high-complexity marine system integration.
